Award Travel Advisory · Est. 2025

Your points
were meant
to take you farther.

The Mileage Accountant turns complex card, airline, and hotel balances into carefully selected premium travel — without moving a point until a specific seat is confirmed bookable.

No retainer · No deposit · No fee if there is nothing worth booking

01 — The premise

Most people hold their miles and never learn what they are capable of.

A balance of points is not money. It is an option, and options are only worth what you can exercise them for.

Redeemed through a credit-card travel portal, a point is worth roughly one cent and nothing more. Transferred to the right airline partner and applied to the right seat, the same point can be worth several times that. The difference is not a trick — it is a function of knowing which programs price which routes favorably, when award inventory is released, and how to structure a booking so the seats are actually available when you call.

Card portal

≈ 1.0¢

Typical value per point when booking travel through a card issuer portal.

Well-selected premium award

2 – 5¢

Realistic value per point on premium-cabin awards through transfer partners.

Value ranges reflect typical outcomes on premium-cabin international itineraries booked with flexibility. Individual results depend on route, season, program, and how far in advance the search begins.

02 — The comparison

A one-million-point balance, two ways.

A one-million-point balance is a substantial asset. Spent through a portal it books roughly ten thousand dollars of travel. Deployed carefully across transfer partners, the same balance can reasonably produce a great deal more — concentrated in cabins most people never purchase outright.

Card issuer portal

≈ $10,000

Baseline

A fixed redemption rate, published by the card issuer. Simple, predictable, and almost always the lowest value available to you.

Well-selected transfer partner awards

$20K – $50K

Range

Airfare at retail prices, concentrated in premium cabins. Results depend on route, season, program, and flexibility. Illustrative, not a promised outcome.

03 — The same seat, three prices

One business-class seat.
Three very different prices.

A single business-class seat between New York and Western Europe can be priced by one program at fifty thousand miles, by a second at eighty-eight thousand, and by a third at well over two hundred thousand. The seat does not change. Only the program pricing it does.

“The seat does not change. Only the program pricing it does.”

Illustrative pricing based on observed award ranges. Actual mileage costs and availability vary by date, direction, season, and program rules. Transfers are irreversible once completed.

04 — What we do

We find the seat first,
then move the points.

Our work is search, sequencing, and execution. We do not ask you to transfer anything until a specific seat is confirmed bookable.

  • i.

    Continuous Availability Monitoring

Premium cabin award space appears without notice and is often taken within hours. We watch the routes relevant to your travel rather than checking when you happen to ask.

  • ii.

    Program Selection

We identify which of your available currencies books a given itinerary most efficiently, accounting for award pricing, surcharges, and routing rules.

  • iii.

    Transfer Sequencing

Transfers are irreversible. We confirm the seat is held or immediately bookable before any points leave your flexible balance.

  • iv.

    Booking and Follow-Through

We handle ticketing and continue to monitor for schedule changes, equipment swaps, and opportunities to improve the itinerary before departure.

05 — Our process

How an engagement runs.

  1. 01

    Portfolio review

We catalogue every balance you hold across card issuers, airlines, and hotel programs, along with expiration exposure and any transfer bonuses currently running.

  2. 02

    Trip definition

We establish where you want to go, when, in what cabin, and critically how much flexibility exists in the dates. Flexibility is the single largest determinant of what we can find.

  3. 03

    The search

We run availability across every viable program and routing, including partner carriers and connecting itineraries that do not surface in a standard search.

  4. 04

    Presentation of options

You receive realistic options with the mileage cost, cash surcharges, cabin, routing, and aircraft for each. You choose. We do not book without your instruction.

  5. 05

    Transfer and ticket

Once you select an option, we direct the transfer and complete the booking while the space is live.

The client chooses. Nothing is booked without instruction, and no points move until the selected option is confirmed bookable.

Featured redemptions

Two redemptions,
the range of what this work looks like.

Aircraft wing and engine at dusk

06The aspirational benchmark

Emirates First Class, New York to Dubai.

A private suite, onboard shower access, and a retail fare that puts it out of reach as a cash purchase for nearly everyone who flies it.

Retail one-way fare, First
≈ $16,500
Emirates Skywards saver, one-way
≈ 136K – 180K miles
Carrier-imposed surcharges
Several hundred USD
Transfer partners
Amex MR · Capital One

Membership Rewards and Capital One both transfer into Skywards at one to one. The constraint is never the points. It is that Emirates releases very limited First Class award space to partners, and what is released moves quickly. This is the redemption that rewards continuous monitoring over occasional searching.

Award pricing is dynamic and varies by date, direction, and season. Figures are representative of saver-level availability observed on this route and are not a quoted price. Surcharges are payable in cash at ticketing.

07The redemption that matters most

Business class to Europe.

Less dramatic than a first-class suite, and considerably more useful across a year of travel.

Typical round-trip cash fare
$4,000+
Well-timed partner award
≈ 50K – 90K miles
Value per mile realized
Well above portal rates
Same 60K through portal
≈ $600 of travel

A four-thousand-dollar seat secured for sixty thousand miles values each mile at well over six cents. The same sixty thousand points spent through a card portal books six hundred dollars of travel. That is the entire argument for this service, expressed in one comparison. Europe is also the most forgiving market — accepting a connection through a partner hub or flying into a secondary city frequently unlocks pricing a direct search would never surface.

Representative ranges only. Actual availability depends on route, dates, cabin, and passenger count. We factor cash surcharges into every option we present.

Japan Promotion — currently offered

A $36,000 seat,
booked from a portfolio.

JAL Suite Life first class, JFK to Haneda. Salon 2015, Hibiki 21, caviar prepared in the cabin — and a private suite that closes its own door. Ticketed for 360,000 Amex points and a flat $2,500 promotional fee — a $1,000 saving on our standard 12% commission.

08 — Realistic expectations

What your points are actually worth.

We would rather set an honest expectation than an impressive one. These are the ranges we work within — and they are ranges, not guarantees.

“A service that never tells you to hold is not advising you.”
Redemption typeTypical value per point
Cash back or statement credit0.6¢ — 1.0¢
Card issuer travel portal1.0¢ — 1.5¢
Economy award, transfer partner1.2¢ — 2.0¢
Business class award, well-selected2.5¢ — 5.0¢
First class award, saver availability4.0¢ — 8.0¢

These figures do not claim a tenfold return, and they do not suggest every redemption lands at the top of its range. A great many do not. There are dates on which the correct advice is to pay cash and preserve the points for a better opportunity — and we will give that advice when it applies.

09 — Beyond the flight

Hotels and on-the-ground planning.

A well-booked flight is the largest single win in most itineraries, and it is rarely the whole trip. We work with clients on the rest of it — hotel reservations placed through our agency partnership, with consortium benefits where the property participates.

  • Room upgrade at check-in, subject to availability
  • Early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability
  • Daily breakfast for two guests
  • A property credit toward dining or spa
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi and a welcome amenity

Benefits typically apply at the prevailing published rate — meaning you are not paying a premium to receive them. Not every property participates, and upgrades are always subject to availability on the day of arrival. We also advise on hotel-points redemptions and on restaurant and itinerary planning in the cities we know well.

10 — Account handling

Your points remain yours.

This section matters more than it appears to, and most services in this category do not address it at all. We structure our engagements to keep you compliant with the programs you hold.

Bookings are made in your name, in your account

Awards are ticketed in your own loyalty account for you and the travelers you designate. We do not pool client balances, and we do not book your award into an account you do not control.

You authorize each transfer explicitly

No points move without your specific instruction on that specific booking. We present the option, the cost, and the risk, and you decide.

We tell you when a program's terms are restrictive

Where a carrier's rules limit third-party assistance, we say so before you engage rather than after. In some cases the right answer is for us to prepare the booking and for you to execute it yourself.

Passwords are not a default requirement

We work from balance information you provide and from access arrangements you are comfortable with. Where a booking requires action inside your account, we can prepare everything and walk you through execution.

Loyalty program terms change without notice. You remain responsible for compliance with the terms of any program in which you hold an account. Nothing on this website is legal advice.

11 — Pricing

A flat fee, quoted before we start.

You know the cost before any work begins. No initiation fee, no retainer, no deposit. A fee calculated as a percentage of claimed savings requires us to first assert what you would otherwise have paid — a number that is easy to inflate and impossible to verify.

“If we cannot find something worth booking, you owe nothing.”

Answers before you ask.

14 — Getting started

The first conversation
costs nothing.

Tell us what you hold and where you would like to go. We will tell you honestly what is achievable, what it could cost in miles and cash, and whether it is worth doing now.

If your points are better held for another six months, that is the advice you will receive.
